The Academy for Learning Islam continued its primary activity, giving short courses to enable Mu’mineen to enhance their understanding of Islam. During the year 2005/2006 courses in Vancouver were offered by the following instructors: Shaykh Hasnain Kassamali, Sr. Tahera Kassamali, Shaykh Esmail al-Khaliq, Br. Usama al-Atar and Sr. Zehra Moledina.
- ALI 099 – Conversational Arabic. This course taught conversational Arabic for beginners in an Arabic dialect that is most commonly used.
- ALI 101 - Colloquial Arabic: Levels 1 & 2. The follow-up to ALI 099 taught conversation Arabic skills to beginners.
- ALI 102: Microsoft Word and Excel (for senior ladies) This was held in the computer lab at the az-Zahraa center and was conducted by Sr. Zehra Moledina. Ladies were taught to use Microsoft Word as well as to become familiar with using the internet.
- ALI 103, 104, 107, 108, 109 - Qur’anic Arabic : Four courses for ladies and one for gents.
- ALI 105 - Tafseer of Du`a of Abu Hamza Thumali. This course explored the profound treasures that exist in Du`a Abu Hamza Thumali taught by Imam Zaynul Abidin (a).
- Hajj Seminar: A seminar on the spiritual aspects of Hijjatul Islam was held at the Academy on Sunday (January 4, 2004) from 2:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. This helped the would-be Hujjaj to establish goals to prepare for Hajj and maximize the benefits of this spiritual journey.
- Spiritual Preparation for the holy month of Ramadhan – A one time session held on October 1st 2005 to help Mu’mineen prepare for the holy month.
- Qur’an Tilawah Program – This was held over the summer of 2005 to help Mu’mineen practice and improve their Qur’an Tilawah skills.
From May 2006 to April 2008 the religious director has a commitment with Husseini Islamic Center in Sanford, Florida to conduct similar courses for youths and adults for mu’mineen of greater Orlando at Florida Institute of Religious Studies and Training (FIRST). Alhamdu lillah about 20 courses have been conducted so far by the Religious Director.
